Bedroom accessories: how to choose the right ones

We talked to designers about the intricacies of choosing bedroom accessories and prepared some practical tips for you.

Accessories (taken from dictionaries) are secondary or optional things you can do without. But not in the interior of the house, the designers assure. After all, without beautiful and heart-warming little things the room remains bland and indistinct. Professionals confidently choose accessories for the bedroom from designer’s collections or mass market stores, skillfully play with accents, and combine them in space, giving the room a unique style. For “ordinary” people, everything happens differently. If the purchase and arrangement of basic furniture is something they can handle, the mention of accessories puts one in a state of mild anxiety. Where to start? How to place them in a small space? Where to find a place for accessories, if the renovation is already completed? Let’s talk further.

What exactly is important to consider when choosing interior items for the bedroom

The geometry of the space (area of the room, ceiling height, width of windows and doors, presence of a niche)

The more complex the geometry is, the more moderate the approach to choosing accessories should be.

A spacious rectangular bedroom can handle any accessories. But here too, you should not get carried away and overload the space with unnecessary things. Bedside benches or soft round poufs will help to achieve balance – they will not take up extra space but will add the desired coziness.

In a small space it is better to reduce the number of accessories to a minimum, so as not to draw unnecessary attention to the modest square footage. Designers advise choosing 2-3 noticeable accessories and placing them at some distance from each other. These can be hanging shelves or compact poufs of unusual design.

Сolor palette

Bright, contrasting interiors with complex decor in most cases are the field of activity for professionals. For beginners, there is a convenient solution – to add color with the help of accessories. Such a simple technique gives free rein to imagination and forgives mistakes. Bright sofa cushions or paintings by modern artists will fit into any space and enliven the interior. And if you wish, it will be easier to replace them than a bed or a wardrobe.

Practical application

Additional interior items can block the movement and space flow in the bedroom. But sometimes it is simply impossible to do without them. The ideal solution is to combine convenience and beauty in one item. So, for example, it has become relevant, fashionable and convenient today to use coffee tables instead of bedside tables. And an interesting headboard can become a cozy cushion and an accent detail of the interior at the same time.

Preferences

Tastefully selected details add a soul to the space and reflect the inner world of the owner. And the bedroom is too intimate a place to fill it with “random” things. Rounded soft poufs will suit romantic natures, tables with geometric shapes – connoisseurs of minimalism, and unusual designer interior items will appeal to the lovers of interior fashion. However, there are no strict rules, because the main argument in choosing interior accessories is the personal comfort of the owners. And then everything else.

And finally, we will discuss the most difficult issue for beginners – the selection of accessories for the finished interior.

When developing an interior, designers immediately operate with “ready-made compositions”, and accessories are often selected at the design stage. People without design experience usually think about accessories when the renovation is already fully completed. At this stage, it is already difficult to understand how a thing from a catalog or from a store will look in the interior. Difficult, but possible. If you listen to our advice:

Tip 1: Mark the place on the floor with masking tape. So you will be able to estimate the real dimensions of larger accessories – bedside tables or poufs, for example.

Tip 2: Don’t be afraid to mix and match: vintage posters and a candle holder from a nearby store, bright photo frames and fluffy rugs, a grandmother’s vase, and a trendy sconce.

Tip 3: Talk to a store consultant. If you feel that you cannot do such work on your own, contact our managers for advice. Write or call when it is convenient for you, and we will help.
